A Tribute to our friend and colleague, Gill McWalter

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our much-loved colleague and friend, Gill McWalter, has recently passed away.

Gill devoted more than 30 years to working in housing, making a real difference to the lives of many people along the way. She started her housing career with Ormiston People’s Housing Co-operative before moving to Vale of Duntrune Community Housing Association, which later became Home in Scotland. She then joined Angus Housing Association on a temporary basis before moving on to Sanctuary Housing Association. Thankfully for us, Gill returned to Angus Housing Association as a Housing Officer, where she became a valued and much-loved member of the team.

Gill cared deeply about her work and the people she supported. She faced her illness with incredible courage and strength. Despite her battle with cancer, she remained so positive and she was determined to get back to the job she loved, being a Housing Officer. Her dedication to the job she loved never left her.

Anyone who worked with Gill will know that it wasn’t just what she did, but who she was, that made her so special.

Gill was truly one of a kind. She was the kind of person everyone was glad to have in their life, and the most caring and loyal of friends. She had a fantastic sense of humour and a way of making people laugh. Her warmth, kindness and friendship meant so much to so many people.

Above all else, though, Gill’s family came first and anyone who knew her could see just how much they meant to her. Her husband, Gareth, and son, Lucas, were at the centre of everything she did as well as the rest of her family who she spoke about with such love.

Gill was more than just a colleague, she was a true friend to so many of us. We will miss her so much and her absence will be felt in so many ways.

Our thoughts are with Gill’s family and loved ones at this very sad time. We hope they can take some comfort from knowing just how much Gill was loved by all of us who had the privilege of knowing her.

Thank you, Gill, for being such a special part of our lives. We will always remember you with love. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.

Our offices will be closed from 12 noon on Friday 28 August as colleagues come together to attend Gill’s funeral and pay their respects.
