Corporate & Governance

Angus Housing Association is a charity registered with OSCR (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) and a Registered Social Landlord regulated by the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR). We adhere to the Regulation of Social Housing in Scotland Framework published by the SHR.

Our History

Angus Housing Association has a long history stretching back to the earliest days of the Housing Association movement in Scotland. 2020 marked the 50th anniversary of our initial registration with the Register of Friendly Societies in May 1970. We have grown from 36 homes in the small coastal village of Auchmithie to a landlord owning over 2000 homes in Angus and Dundee. We also provide factoring services for over 700 owner occupiers.

As a regulated social landlord and charity, the Association upholds the principle of good governance and the documents found in the Corporate & Governance Policies section available here details key documents related to the way in which the Association complies with our governance and good practice obligations.

Our Governance

The Association is governed by a Board of Management who are all volunteers. They provide a wealth of knowledge, experience and skills and are responsible for setting the direction of the Association and ensuring that it conducts it’s business in adherence with the SHR’s Regulatory Framework including leading and directing Angus Housing Association to achieve good outcomes for it’s tenants and other services users.

Funding

Angus Housing Association is a Registered Charity and a non profit company. The main source of our funding comes from income from rents and service charges for our properties.  A breakdown of how we spend this money can be found within our Annual Report.

We also receive significant funding to build new homes from the Scottish Government in the form of grants and as loans from lenders from banks and other lending organisations.

Professional Affiliations

Angus Housing Association is a member of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA). The  SFHA is the membership body for, and collective voice of, housing associations and co‑operatives in Scotland. Their mission is to sustain and strengthen the impact members have on people and communities across Scotland.

Internal Audit– the Association undertakes regular internal audits of its functions and practices. The topics for internal audit are set by the Board in consultation with the Senior Management Team and reported to the Finance, Audit and Risk Sub Committee. Our Internal Audit function is provided by Quinn Internal Audit Services Ltd.

External Audit – the Association undertakes annual statutory financial audits of its practices and accounts to ensure that we have appropriate internal controls and that we are compliant with statutory obligations and the we adhere to industry practice and our own internal policies.  At present our financial auditors are Chiene & Tait.
